ØRN's Commitment to a More Sustainable Future

At ØRN, we believe real change happens when everyday actions are embedded into business processes and embraced with real purpose and backed by long-term strategy.

The fashion and textile industry is one of the largest consumers of water globally. Producing a single cotton t-shirt can require up to 2,700 litres of water (WWF, 2023). With these staggering figures, water conservation must be addressed it is no longer optional – overconsumption of resources has made it essential.

At ØRN, tackling this challenge has been central to our strategy and sustainability mission. We've long recognised the strain garment manufacturing places on water consumption and natural resources, and have taken action to rethink how garments are made.

What changes have we made?

One example is our collection of T-shirts where we have significantly reduced the amount of water used, representing a substantial 11–14% decrease across the range - this reflects the decrease in usage compared to two years ago (depending on garment). Importantly, we clearly state the water usage of every product within this collection from 90L to 130L per garment, far below the 2,700 litres of water used.

Displaying the information on our spec sheets helps us to remain transparent and our workwear partners to trust that we are being accountable for our consumption. We display the same litre and percentage information across all our other workwear garments.

Dyeing: We take water conservation even further by ensuring that all water used in the dyeing process is thoroughly treated. Every supplier in our supply chain recycles the water to meet the environmental standards of their respective countries, by removing all chemicals they ensure it’s safe for processing through local treatment facilities - ultimately making it safe for human use.

A business can make a bigger impact

As a business water savings should be part of everyone’s broader commitment. At ØRN it is just one element of our long-term strategy and broader commitment to reducing resources. We are constantly working to improve sustainability across our entire supply chain from sourcing responsible materials and partnering with ethical companies – recently receiving Global Recycled Standard (GRS) Certification for yet another year.

On the 16th May we celebrated 'Water Saving Week'

There are many simple and impactful ways to save water during 'Water Week' and beyond. Here are our tips on how to reduce water usage at home.

After all, every action counts, no matter how small.

💧 Repair any dripping taps
💧 Install water-efficient fixtures
💧 Shower instead of bathing
💧 Use a water butt for plants (they prefer rainwater)
💧 Turn taps off when brushing teeth
💧 Use a dishwasher for larger loads rather than washing up

We encourage everyone; businesses and individuals alike, to take action. Reducing dependency and saving water is an investment in our planet. Let’s all be hero’s and save water where we can.
